Here at the Lion’s Den, we know that the Bible states that God has a very special place in His heart for youth (Jeremiah 1:6-8
, 1 Timothy 4:16
). We also realize that there are a multitude of things out there in today’s culture that are trying to steer the youth of this generation away from the plan and the purpose that God has for them. Whether it’s pop culture telling young men that they aren’t men unless they disrespect women and party their life away, or the cover of tabloids telling young women that they aren’t beautiful unless they look like digitally altered supermodels, there is a campaign out there to tear down the self-esteem and the heart of our youth. ...And we want to change that.
Each and every young adult is special to God, and He has a heart to be with them, and to help them through the (crazy) teenage years. This culture is constantly pushing our kids towards the path of doing whatever they want, and not worrying about the consequences. This is a path that ends up in hopelessness, rejection, and pain.
Our heart at the Lion’s Den is to see the youth of this city turn from that path, and meet Jesus in an exciting and personal way. We meet on Tuesday nights at the Student Center at City Life (across from the fairgrounds).
A usual youth group goes as follows:
The Student Center opens up at 3pm, and stays open until 6pm. If you are anywhere from sixth to twelfth grade, feel free to drop by any time in there to hang out. They’ve got Halo, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and a bunch more XBox games. They’ve also got Wii’s, ping pong, pool, basketball, volleyball-just about anything you can think of.
At 6pm Youth Group officially starts. To kick off the evening, we mess around with a couple of group games, spend some time hanging out with each other and having some fun together (can't be too serious). After a couple of games, we move into the Bible Study part.
We just recently started going through the Truth Project as a group. It's a fantastic video series that challenges believers of all ages to dig deeper into God's Word, and truly seek His face. We find that when we do that, when we really try to find out who God is, we start to find out who we are, and we discover the purpose that He has for us. It changes our world-view, and we start to see people and circumstances through God's eyes, and not our own.
So we usually watch about a 20-minute clip of the film series and then split up into a Middle School group and a High School group to discuss the film-anything that stood out to us, or any questions that we may have.
After we spend time in God’s Word, we pray for each other and then hang out together until about 8pm.
If you are anywhere from 6
th through 12th grade, we would love to have you come and hang out with us, get to know God better, build some relationships with Christian friends, and be part of the family. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach me at
